Without a Trace: The Complete Third Season

Ah-ha, finally!
Does anyone know what the holdup is with this show? Releasing a region-1 season every two years is unacceptable! (At the time I write this review, Amazon hasn't even posted a release date yet.)

That said, the third season, like the first two, treats us to some excellent character moments. Jack prepares to leave his team and put his family first; then his wife announces she wants a divorce. Martin and Samantha's relationship moves forward, but not without conflict. Danny's brother Rafi makes a poignant reappearance, and Vivian learns she needs heart surgery. Memorable cases include the disappearance of a nannny and the child she watches, the return of the Knowles brothers (first seen in Season Two's "Doppelganger"), a two-parter that finds Sam working undercover, and the vanishing of a sci-fi fanatic who claims alien abduction. Most riveting, though, is the cliffhanger finale, which ends in a shootout that critically wounds one of the team. Unfortunately, we may have...

Without A Trace tv series
I agree with the prvious opinion, show is great. If you don't want to wait, seasons 3 and 4 are available from amazon.com/uk. Just remember that is region 2 and you will need an all region player. Got my player on amazon.

Without a Trace Season 3
I was so very disappointed with this purchase when upson receiving it, I got an error message on all of the DVD players I attempted to play it on. Once I submitted a request to return, I was told about the different "regions" that DVDs are intended to be used in and how that would be on the DVD cover. Well, this is the first time I have ever had to check out regions before making a purchase. Why your company would send to a US resident a DVD that cannot be played in North America is very frustrating and seems to me a bit deceiving by your company. Never before, when I have bought DVD's at Best Buy, Target or on line, have I been sent a DVD that could only be played on a foreign country device. It appears to me this is a flaw in your ordering process. So now, I have to fill out paperwork and pay for the shipping and handling and this company will determine if I get a refund. This is a true inconvenience and has left me a very unsatisfied Amazon customer and this experience has...

Lethal Weapon Collection (Lethal Weapon / Lethal Weapon 2 / Lethal Weapon 3 / Lethal Weapon 4) [Blu-ray]

Don't buy the box set - buy the DTS director Cuts versions
I almost bought this but have discovered the hard way that you should ALWAYS research the DVD especially for uncut versions and missing footage. This box set contains the old cut versions and NOT the directors cut DTS versions. LW 1-3 are out on DTS and LW 4 is only available in DD 5.1 and actually contains the missing footage for the previous 3 movies !!!

Entire Film Series At a Bargain Price
The Lethal Weapon movies are some of the best buddy/action/comedy movies ever. This two disc set includes all four movies in the Lethal Weapon series for the price of one movie. Each of the movies is shown in the Director's Cut edition. There are trailers for the first three movies, but not for LETHAL WEAPON 4. However, LETHAL WEAPON 4 does include a commentary with director Richard Donner. If you're unfamiliar with the Lethal Weapon franchise, a brief synopsis of the films follows.

LETHAL WEAPON is the first movie in the series and introduces the unlikely cop team of Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) and Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson). Murtaugh is fifty-years old and a veteran officer. Riggs is an up-and-coming star of the police force, known for his atypical style. They are partnered together and become close friends while working to bring down a major drug cartel. Besides being just a good movie, LETHAL WEAPON is also notable for being the movie that made Mel Gibson a...

This is good, but the 3 pack is better...
The Lethal Weapon series in itself is a great set of movies, and this is a flat-out good pack of movies for the fans of the Lethal Weapon series. This has the original DVDs with the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and the Widescreen video, but I'm a fan of extras so I like the 3 pack director's cut better.

If you feel like getting all four movies in pack, go for it: otherwise I would get the cheaper three pack and buy LW 4 seperately.

True Blood: The Complete Second Season (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)

A series you just have to bite into...
I have been a major Sookie Stackhouse fan for years. I began reading Charlaine Harris's series, then called the Southern Vampire Mysteries, since before book four came out, and have read them all in order. I was puzzled when I found out that HBO was going to make a TV adaptation of it. Why this particular series? Why not Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series? (It would have been suitable, what with all of the sex and all.) There were others as well, like Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld and MaryJanice Davidson's Queen Betsy series -- all of which have the erotic tones that HBO would have loved. So why this book series? Now I know why, but more on that later.

I very much enjoyed season one. It was very faithful to Dead Until Dark, except that small characters like Tara and Lafayette were expanded, and you get everyone's point of view, not just Sookie's. Also, Bill has more depth here, and you see things from his point of view, and you understand him...

Great Show but not worth the Insane on-demand policy
I've already watched the two season and was delighted to see I could get it on demand. Willing to put out my hard earned money to own the show but then was puzzled to see it was only a rental and not ownership for On demand. What makes this even more insane is the rental is $3 per/ eps for one 24 hr viewing. That is the same price to OWN 1 eps. in HD for any other show. Then to add to the insanity you can buy the season on Blu-ray for only $42. Ok a little more then $3 per/eps but still they have to make the disc and the box the disc go in and storage for inventory vs on-demand being a little server space. And you OWN the disc and can walk over to anyone house with Blu-ray to play it, no restrictions to deal with. So how in the world does their on-demand policy make sense?

Again it shows why piracy is so common place when companies come up with these insane pricing and ownership schemes. So I guess for now I just won't own True Blood and live with just one time...

Great Show, Bad Policy
I recorded most of True Blood Season 2 last summer on my DVR but I missed two episodes.

I though I would just purchase them from Amazon because I had some credit left from a gift card. Then I found two problems. First, I was disappointed to see that it's $3 per episode, not the $3 I am used to for TV shows. Second, I was even more disappointed to see that it's only a RENTAL, not a purchase. HBO and Amazon expect you to pay $3 an episode to watch the season ONE TIME!?!

That's just crazy. If they want to make them rentals they can't be more than $1 per episode. If I pay more than that I expect to OWN the series and be able to watch them over and over. This is why people download shows illegally, unreasonable policies and ridiculous pricing.

Doctor Who: The Complete First Series

The new Doctor Who finally hits America!
Having barely seen an episode or two on PBS in my youth, I really got into the series after seeing the 1997 US TV movie. I quickly snatched up every VHS tape, and found every other missing episode and unreleased story on bootleg videos, to obsessively have every inch of existing Doctor Who known to man. I preferred Jon Pertwee's Doc the best, with Troughton and T. Baker next. No need to get into the original classic series, so on with the new one.

Right from the start, I really enjoy Eccleston's portrayal of the Doctor. It seems he really did his homework and seems to have found just the right combination of wit and intellect that made so many previous doctors a success. His quick tongue seems to keep up to the fast new pace of the show. While the longer episode, vintage shows had more time for character development and interaction, in today's fast paced world of 32x fast forward speed DVD capability, you can't have 4 to 6 part episodes and expect to keep people's attention...

It's finally here & it's FANtastic!!!
Dr. Who is Forty (actually he's 900, but like the Doctor, the show had been around in one form or another since 1964). The BBC celebrated in 2005 by bringing the show back to television for its 27th season (or as it is more consistently called: SEASON ONE)in a glossy, fast-paced enough to satisfy contemporary audiences, while still conscious of its roots. This SET contains all 13 season one episodes from the rebirth of the longest running sci-fi series in TV history. The producers clearly have a respect and understanding of the UK icon. Obviously, fans, the creators do things with the show we would do ourselves.

EXTRAS:

SET features the companion series DR. WHO CONFIDENTIAL, a behind the scenes show that ran concurrently providing an episode for all 13 shows supplying fun chart toping tunes to film footage, interviews and more. Set also includes commentaries by cast and crew actually worth listening to!!

Doctor Who has always has a voice defined by the...

As good as it gets.
Rusell Davies reinvention of the British classic has been the broadcasting story of 2005. Put quite simply it is the biggest show on Tv in the Uk at the moment. I think that sometimes it is hard for people Stateside to grasp this. This is not a cult hit, one in 6 people in the Uk are watching this.

This DVD set collects together all 13 episodes from the first series along with a good series of extras (although not as outstanding as we had all hoped) and shows off a dazzling array of inventive and intelligent telefantasy stories.

Christopher Eccleston nails the Doctor completely and shows just what a good actor he is. Billie Piper is also superb as the companion Rose Tyler. But it is the writing where the series really scores. RTD and his team really show their love of the old show without missing the point that today's Tv market calls for a fast paced modern approach.

This is the show that has redifined TV in the UK, it can be watched and enjoyed by...

Night Court: The Complete Sixth Season

Nigh Court 6th season
Unlike most other shows, Night Court didn't lose much of a beat after 6 seasons, and its irreverent (and sometimes politically incorrect) humor is as enjoyable today as it was 20-plus years ago. Our favorite episodes are "The Clip Show" featuring Richard Sanders (from WKRP) as a city auditor threatening to throw the book at Harry, and "From Snoop To Nuts" in which Christine thinks she saw Harry accept a bribe from a mobster. I would much rather see this show than 90% of the sitcoms that are airing today.

Night Court Season 4, 5, 6...
I'm very disppointed that Night Court Season 4, 5, 6,... don't have closed caption (CC) or Subtitled for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDHH). How come Night Court Season 1, 2 and 3 have it? Remember that Law 504 that require ALL DVD to have CC or SDHH.

One of the craziest sitcoms ever made
Night Court was completely wacky and one of the funniest shows of all time. The show parodied how dysfunctional Night Courts can be. Harry is hilariously unorthodox and yet an efficent judge. I didn't retain alot of the great quotes. Dan's plane went down in the Arctic and he was unconscious and rescued by a seal and the natives on a remotes island and the dynamic between the primitive natives and the Seal was very funny. A tramp got Harry and Dan undrressed and hid from the person coming in his chambers by going out on the ledge and ending up stranded. Bull was found to be esceptionally talented intellectually in an area of assignemnts and ends up in a lab. Dan Fielding gets on a game show and words from an obscene proposition he heard retract his memory to win. I didn't like the offensive male stereotyping and manhater like remarks, but there was only a handful or less. Bull is always the most funny character on the show and did some very amusing things and Dan showed more of his...

Giselle [Blu-ray]

A fine alternative to the equally fine version from the Royal Ballet
This latest issue in the series of HD recordings from the Bolshoi Ballet was made in 2011 and brings their version of one of the most staple Romantic period ballets to our screens. In this case the choreography is by Grigorovich who has also created a memorable Spartacus and Nutcracker. The Bolshoi Ballet has always been renowned for their wonderful dancing, both solo and corps de ballet, so it is a pleasure to report that their return to recordings after an absence due to refurbishment has not resulted in any loss of their previous high standards.

The setting is therefore completely traditional as one would expect and the stage backdrop and flats are of the previous high quality that one would also expect of this company. In Act 1 the backdrop is particularly beautifully painted and the chosen autumnal colours are picked up in the very lovely dresses and peasant clothing of the female and male members of the corps de ballet. The aristocratic court is appropriately...

Stunning, Almost Ideal Giselle
The Bolshoi Ballet's production of Giselle, with choreography by Yuri Grigorovich after the traditional version, and set and costume designs by Simon Virsaladze, is an almost ideal production of the quintessential ballet. It goes without saying that choreographically and visually speaking, the ballet is absolutely perfect - it is all in the hands of the dancers. Dimitri Gudanov is admirable in this role, but it is Svetlana Lunkina who really shines. Her gestures, emotionality, and attenuated lines produce an ethereal and remarkable effect. I would watch this over and over again just for her, without counting her remarkable partner and the solid corps de ballet. As per usual of 'The Bolshoi Ballet: HD Collection', the video and audio is in very high definition, wonderfully filmed. I believe that this DVD is one of the must-have Giselles in any balletomane's collection.

Maximova's Student Made It !
I had seen some clips of Svetlana Lunkina's Giselle. One year ago this DVD was not available in the US. I left a comment on amazon.uk. When this DVD is published with DVD region code 1, I just simply bought it. I love Svetlana Lunkina's Giselle very much. She is a natural and light dancer. She continues Ulanova's tradition to dance as a pure, innocent and light Giselle. She is the best Giselle after Galina Ulanova, Ekaterina Maximova (Bolshoi Ballet). Hope this great tradition can go on forever. In Act II Svetlana Lunkina's technique and performance is almost perfect. She is like a piece of cloud, even lighter than Alina Cojocaru. Her dancing is not to jump high, but only move as air flowing. A Beautiful Giselle!

True Blood: The Complete Fourth Season (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)

Really Great Season and an Improvement on the Last
After the kitchen-sink approach of season three, season four of True Blood went back to basics in many ways. Maybe the writers saw the need to have more cohesive stories this year (In fact, a couple of the commentators on the season three DVDs mentioned their desire to have things be more contained writing-wise). That I feel was the major flaw of the still deliciously entertaining third season. But, season four reminded me of the first season in some ways. Things stayed in Bon Temps and everyone was much more involved with each other. I really enjoyed how everyone became intertwined again.

So, the Big Bad for this season is technically two women: a timid medium named Marnie (Fiona Show) who becomes possessed with the vengeful spirit of an Inquisition-era witch Antonia (Paula Turbay). Marnie was an interesting villain; much more vulnerable and humanized than Maryann or Russell Edgington or even Rene. She was so shy and meek that she had to become possessed by a witch to find...

Best "TRUE BLOOD" season to date!
For many reasons, season 4 far exceeded my expectations. I have loved the series from day one, but season 4 took us to a much darker place filled with surprises and shock.
One truly standout character was Marnie (played with finesse by Fiona Shaw). She has been the best villain (for lack of a better word)of the series thus far. It gave our beloved characters some great story lines to explore, and all were acted brilliantly.
I loved the dark fairy world Sookie was taken to in the season premiere. Anna Paquin has really found the character of Sookie and embraced it. She is a wonderful actress who never fails to deliver.
The plot with Lafayette & Jesus was benign and sweet all at the same time and their relationship really came full circle (a rare thing on this series).
Some of the story lines seemed out of place, in particular the Jason/Were-Panther/rape plot, but it ended and was only briefly mentioned thereafter.
I have loved the character of Tara, but...

Vampires, Witches, & Werewolfs Oh My!
I'm a fan of both the TV series and the books, and as the show progresses it goes farther and farther from the books, but that isn't really a bad thing. In the fourth season there is the usual amount of vampire and werewolf drama, but now adds witches to the mix as well. I loved the casting of Fiona Shaw this season. I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but I really liked the storylines for Jessica this season, as well as Sookie spending her time with someone other then Bill. The one really weak point of the season, in my opinion, was Tara, as it didn't really seem like she fit anywhere inparticular.
